Major League Baseball has awarded exclusive broadcast rights for a select package of regular season Toronto Blue Jays games to YouTube. The August 17th Blue Jays game was part of that exclusive package and is now no longer available for Sportsnet to broadcast on TV or on Sportsnet NOW. The other game that was part of this package was on June 30th.
Please note you can still watch this game at no charge by searching “MLB” in the YouTube app on Rogers Ignite or your Smart TV, or by visiting youtube.com/MLB. Please check out MLB.com and/or youtube.com/MLB for more information.
Q: Did the Blue Jays give you the heads up this was happening?
A: We received notice at the same time as the other broadcasters across MLB.
Q: How could MLB take these games away from Sportsnet? Don’t you have the exclusive rights to broadcast in Canada?
A: Major League Baseball rules allow them to take a certain number of regional games and use them for national distribution
Q: When will we find out if there are more games being taken away this season?
A: That decision will be made and announced by Major League Baseball in conjunction with YouTube.
Q: Will you be replaying the game from YouTube on TV? If not, why?
A: No. As per Major League Baseball, Sportsnet is not permitted to broadcast this game.
